his first mobile, now he's moved up to seccy school. And has settled in well. 'Twon't be anything fancy, and it'll have to be WELL under a ton. Also sim-free as he'll be making calls only when urgent, so no 'contract' malarkey. But, must have WiFi so's he can surf at home (and, he's shown me, can make free calls via Faceache...) So, an Android-based thingy. It's going to have to be pretty much low-end spec (the poor dear), so was looking at things like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251363661943?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 The whole processor thing is a nightmare as I've never looked at phone specs before, and also the version of Android can make a big difference; 4.2 is reckoned to be a lot smoother and faster than 4.1, etc. Thoughts, peeps? Ta muchly.
I'd recommend the fixed tarrif from tesco a smart fone, 250 talk mins,5000 texts,500mb data £750 per month and because its capped, there's no nasty bill at the end of the month, and if he runs out he can top up if needed, I'm on it I've got a samsung galaxy Y, Its too clever for me but i'm sure your lad will be able to work it
£750 a month?? I bet they throw in a free tablet at that price. (I'd expect then to throw in a free house too)
Sevenhundredandfifty pennies? You gotta be kidding... Actually, I'm not kidding. I won't be forking out £7.50 per anything for something that just ain't needed. It'll be similar to my own mob phone - on payg Virgin. My last monthly bill was zero. As was the month before that. The previous month again was a bad one - I think it was around 43p...
DA, surely even on PAYG, you have to top it up occasionally or face the phone being disconnected ? I'm with Vodafone and I'm sure I have to make at least one top up every 3 months or they disconnect the number.
dunno about that JJ, wife has a orange payg, she put a £10er on in 2008 and still has £2.50 on it, its still working, but a payg is no good for a teenager, £10 won't last a week if they're looking at porn, and he will be if he's owt like his dad
Yeah, it isn't payg as it seems these days. This was a phone I bought from Dixons around 10 years ago, and it had a Virgin SIM for which you received a monthly bill for what you used. Obviously this is quite expensive compared to current rates, so you'd be nuts to use it regularly. So, it sits on shelf and receives the odd text, the occasional confirmation of a delivery, the very odd checking of passwords, etc. The original Nokia 3310 went kaput, and it was replaced by a Samsung - which went very hot the last time I charged it. The SIM now resides in a cracking little Alcatel which is minuscule - must be well under 3" long with a screen that can't be more than an inch across. Cute as pie. £5. Coooool.
you need to keep astride of new fashions Mr Devs, the yung un's like BIG but slim now, big screen, touch screen,camera,£500 machines, only on contract can you get the best of the new alien built phones, they'll laugh at him in school if he takes anything less than a galaxy, and if you get him a iphone every one in his skool will want you to be thier dad,
not a problem now JJ they can trace them, in fact you can download a program on any phone, laptop, puter, tablet and you can trace where it is, you can even take photos of the offender if its pointing in the right direction,
I would look at one of these, great spec, good reviews (remember the price when reading reviews!) http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/HUAWEI_Y300/PPAYUPG?colourCode=BLACK EDIT: Should have said would look at a 3 Sim too, PAYG is very cheap now and simple tariff is £6.90 / month for 12 months
here's some middle ground then, Its street cred with all the bells and wistles for not too much dosh, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S53...=UTF8&qid=1382783287&sr=8-1&keywords=galaxy+Y
Salam, if I give him that, I better cover it in vaseline first Cheers, Mr Plum. Samsung are undoubtedly good, but you can get a larger screened alternative with a similar spec for the same money. Bottom line, the poor sod won't have to worry about 'street cred', as his phone won't be 'working'. Ie: he ain't going to be surfin' the 'net with his mates. He'll have to wait until he gets home and connects to our WifFi. Me harsh? Nah...
