iam considering buying a hinge jig and laminate trimmer.

I have never use one before, can I just use the laminate trimmer on its own with fixed base or do I need to buy the plunge base too?

any ideas what best to buy I don't want to spend loads? I like the Idea of the Ryobi cordless laminate trimmer can you get them in uk.

    cheers olie

Why do you want to buy one?

because I have work coming up on new builds with loads of doors which need hanging in new frames,

I wouldn't recommend Ryobi to any one.
Laminate trimmers usually come with a base that sleeves the body of the machine and the ease of adjustment relates to how much you want to spend.

would using a laminate trimmer be the best option? I have also considered Trend T4EKPK12 1/4" Shank Router basically im after something small and lightweight

Laminate trimmers are designed for one handed use.

Yes, you just need a jig and the correct cutter.

Makita trimmers are the most common in my experience.

Do laminate cutters take a guide bush, 16mm seem to be the norm.

They can but you would have to check the specs of the one you were interested in.

Our hosts are selling a Bosch trimmer for 99 quid just now. You can also purchase the plunge body but you wont need it for hinging. Ryobi:eek:

Ryobi seem to be the only maker so it will probably run out after 10 mins and then take 3 hours to charge.

The only thing I ever had that I liked made from Ryobi was the 1/2 collet router and roughter table and still got them not used now just gathering dust.

I've got some Ryobi gear gathering dust and that's because it isn't fit to take out on a job.

It's a screwfix deal, it's called a router rather than a trimmer though.
