Any kitchen designers on here? Just wondering.
Yes it takes skill to fit a quality kitchen but I think the "design" aspect is where the real talent will be found.
It's all about creativity and art at the end of the day.
    And thinking outside the box.

I mean lets face it. Not every kitchen has the wow factor. Just look at ed milibands.
    :D

Cameron's didn't look much better. They both had bigger kitchens than ours. :(

Are you serious? DC's is stunning by comparison.
Obviously had a designer involved and not some sawyer who knocks a few boxes together and throws a chipboard plank on top.

Nah the real talent in kitchen fitting, is totally down to the fitter. He/She's? the one that's producing the finished article. They are the ones getting over corners that just aint 90 degrees (and sorting out the problems the designer didn't know about, because some surveyor, didn't do his/her job properly ) ;);)

Ahh, just realised , your tekkin't *, out of't kitchens our would be leaders have in their houses... I sincerely hope the rest of the e;electorate don't vote the way you do. (based on who's got the better kitchen. (if that were the case, I reckon I might be in with a chance) ;););)

Can "creativity" be learned from a book though? I just think its a God given talent.
    Like song writing.
A good kitchen designer will have studied interior design I should think.

My sister had a kitchen made from machined mdf. When she mentioned that I thought her kitchen would look cr*p.
The blokes who did the work had their own in house designer.
He even advised removing the kitchen window and fitting a larger one which lowered the sill.
So they had builders and BC involved with their new kitchen fit.
It does take a certain type of client when you have a bloke like that in your home advising bashing down part of your home. And you need a certain confidence to do the job his way.
His interpersonal skills will help deal with that though I reckon.
But to do his job properly he ultimately needs a free hand.
And of course you pay the appropriate shillings at the end of the day.
The finished result was stunning. And yes it would make DC's look quite drab.
You can see some of their work here....

That's the designer guy on the right. Holding up another award.

Tell us which song writers you think have god-given talent, Ry. I am all ears.

Elton John, Chris Martin, Paul My Cartney, Ella Henderson, Paul David Hewson, Peter Cetera etc.
All have God given talents imo.

Are you are going to spoil this thread with one of your anti-God atheist rants?
Read the thread title. And if you have any comment lets hear it.
What do you know about mdf design in kitchen use? Do you know what process is involved with making an mdf frame and panel door for example? How are the corner joints on the frame carried out?
Other than that kindly * off.

  10. Hi Ry.

Actually, it wasn't the 'god-given' bit I was interested in - tho' it's always good for a laff - just wondered what you would consider an exceptional talent.

A few dodgy peeps in that list, but generally not too bad, so I'll let you off.

MDF? I ain't made a kitchen from the stuff, but I have made this...

And, because I am a cowboy, gawd told me to chust use butt-joints this time. Just like he told you to use your butt as a tool-holder.

    Yes that looks good.
    Are you sat there now?

It's very satisfying to create something like that your self for your own space.

Generally its MFC for the cheaper and MFMDF for the better and the best are sometime Birch Ply

You missed out on MDF goldenboy!
Sisters kitchen looks something like this...

    http://greenhillkitchens.co.uk/private-residence-lifford-co-donegal/

Except the island is hand painted mdf, the same as the wall cabinetry. Though it might be the wr-mdf grade.
    The carcases are all 25mm.

How does Birch ply or MFMDF match up to a job like the one in the link?
Greenhills kitchens usually start at around £10k.
