Hi. I discovered an answer to mending a threadbare screwhole in an electrical back box which you can get from eBay without taking out the box and no mess.
Yeah but being plastic, it may bugger up the accessory earthing contact with the screw! Mr. HandyAndy - Really
Well if they are plugging their product they're doing a pants job as theres no link or product name (also you could use one of those sparkys re threading tools)
Hi. I'm trying to replace the old sockets in the kitchen wth new ones. However, the wiring (in metal boxes) was done before it was tiled, so things are a bit tight. Consequently a couple of boxes have stripped threads. Any ideas how to fix this as to remove the boxes involves removing the tiles etc. Many thanks. Geoff
As I recall the threads for backboxs are m3.5, wholesalers will do an m4 re threading tool to suit bigger m4 pins. Such as this item from a well known auction site 180803311735
Just take your pliers, grip the lug at the hole, and bend back(or forward) slightly at the hole only. That will narrow the hole allowing a screw to be tighter. Mr. HandyAndy - Really
I know its only half a mill but I've tried the 4mm route and the bolt wouldn't fit through the socket. The best way to do it is to squeeze the lug with pliers to make the hole slightly oval and then re thread with a 3.5 tap. Or replace the lug if its the removable one. Another way is to remove the lug and drill and tap the back of the box and use a long screw.
Many thanks. The bits are on order. Any ideas where I can get M4 screws from? They don't seem to be on the Internet. Many thanks. Geoff
