You need testers really. You have a perm L going to your light. Two of those reds will be perm L and one will be a switched L. Only using testers will confirm what is what. If you don't have testers you can buy them cheap or call an electrician. It wouldn't take them long to fix. It would cost less than testers I'd say

  6. And I'm guessing there's an unused 'com' terminal there too?!

Could I try mixing them until it works ? I've probably mixed them up !
But the lady now wants dimmer instead, which causes more problems although I have done my own.

You are obviously being paid to do this job, for a customer:rolleyes:
On that basis, you should (must) have at least a test meter and know how to use it?
Or do you usually just guess and hope it works?

Ere we go again!. If you don't know what ur doing, you should not be doing it. Especially if your being paid!!!what do you normally do for a living?

I am sorry, my neighbour's husband died and being a pensioner downsized to a bungalow. I offered to decorate and had to strip Wood cladding from walls. I am not being paid just trying to keep cost down.
I have a multimeter but only used it on my car.
    PS I drive a forklift.
Thanks for the advice I did get. Bye.T

Single core on its own to COM. The other two to L1 and L2 either way around. I expect there is a second switch or pull cord, or a removed switch.

    Best guess.

Thank you Spen123, but I'd rather not mess around with anymore electrics.

The description is not clear but it looks like you have a feed in with a sleeve, a feed to the next light switch with a sleeve, and the switch wire up to the light. Connect the 2 sleeved wires into one terminal of the switch, say the common. Now connect the other remaining red wire into the L1 or the remaining terminal on the switch. The light should now work. I know its locking the stable door, but advice for anyone face with a bunch of connections, even electricians, is to use your phone and take a photo before you mess about with it.
