Done my 17th but slightly confused following a conversation since course.

Guidance Notes 3 give you a combined table for 0.4 & 5 secs disconnect times, but regs still seperate the two.

Heard recently that we only have to bother with the 0.4 disconnect time for all circuits.

    Any thoughts

Perhaps the regs are differentiating between fuses and MCB's?

As far as I know mate, everything up to and including 32Amp is to be treated as 0.4 secs disc time. Everything above is assumed to be fixed equipment (not portable or hand held) so its 5 secs.

So 5s disconnection time for a 40A shower???

I'm using dual RCD CU's now so all circuits protected by 30mA RCD therefore i'm filling my disconnection times in as 0.2s as 200ms is the max allowed at x1 fault current.

Also filling in maximum permitted Zs as 1666 Ohms.

    Is this correct?

5 secs max for a distribution circuit above 32amp on a TN system

0.4 secs for all other circuits on TN system & on TT if ereniouse conductive parts are bonded.

0.2 all circuits on TT system

1 sec max for distribution circuit on TT system (theres more to this reg but the book is in the van)

    Thats my take on it
