   Could anybody advise me on what the distance from a supporting wall to the joist to drill through please?? Can't for the life of me remember ..

   Drilling on centre axis of joist 0.25-0.4 of span.
   
   Notching (top only, not bottom) 0.07-0.25 of span, max 0.125 of depth.
