Please help - really want to resolve this problem myself to show me I can do it.
I want to change a washer on a bath/shower mixer tap - I have been told different things. So the question is which way is the back nut threaded? Clockwise or anti clockwise. Thank you

I always thought it goes the opposite way to off... That turning off. That's to stop it undoing when you shut tap off.. Some do go the other way because off is the other way. I think.. See what others say

Anti clockwise will undo it, spanner on sharp tap with hammer will lossen it.

Whisky is Scotch and whiskey is Irish.

Use a close fitting ring spanner for best grip, especially if difficulty in slackening off the tap valve

When you've changed the washer, give the taps a good clean eh.... looking well grimmy

  12. Don't let me correct your spelling, my grammer is bad, or so I have been told.

But it was the hot or cold whiskey that amused me. I have never had it hot, should I ?

You need a tight spanner. Smack it. Shock it and will crack open. If it is rounded off file. Bahco adjustable is what I use. Oh. Just a sensible tap, don't hit to hard

If it won't shift then take tap off and clamp it somewhere and give it a bigger smack.

Also worth trying pouring a kettle full or two of boiling water over the tap then immediately try to unscrew - again a close fitting spanner will help

Looking at picture and the steel bath you would get away with a blow lamp on the chrome tap to heat up. Old mechanics trick for freeing stuff as the outer expands, but you ain't going to want to remove that old tap. That's there for ever
