  1. When is it appropriate for christmas to first be mentioned eg adverts on telly stuff for sale in shops etc

If I was king of England it would be 25th of December and any mention before or after would be an offence punishable by hanging,

I would't like anyone to take my above statement the wrong way, everyday is (that day) to me, I don't need an excuse to be merry and i certainly don't need folks wishing me to be what I already am, I wake up ( that day) and wish all a happy wednesday, just like i woke this morning and wished mrs plum a happy sunday,:)

  5. any time after the first of december is fine but any time before is overkill there is no other annual event that gets advertised so far in advance its nuts i end up fed up with it before december even starts

I think its purely in the interest of shops to get the 'punters' buying as soon as they can get away with it!

(that day) is a marketing ploy, its for suckers,( people easily persuaded to purchase),

a sucker can't tell the differance between need and desire, here's a test,

you need an item, lets say some sellotape for example, go into a £1 shop buy the sellotape and come out, if you've spent a £1 you're not a sucker, If you come out spending £10 because before you got to the sellotape you saw other items you think you might need, then you ARE a sucker and shops love you

If I go into a £1 shop I spend £1 for the item and if there's a queue I put the item down and walk out, all shops HATE me, :)

Commercialism aside, I love the lead up to Christmas - putting the lights up, fetching the Christmas tree, nicking the marzipan that Mrs S had bought ready for her Christmas cake, walking up and down the road in my Santa outfit, wishing everyone Happy Christmas, pulling the charity sleigh through the village and if it's snowing it makes me so happy.
