Im looking for a small drill/driver for within £100.

Ive seen a few bosch and makitas but am wondering whats best.

It doesnt need to be ultra powerful, itll be used for fixing backboxes and the like.

    Any suggestions?

Incidentally, what is the difference between the GSR and GSB?

Im thinking that they are bot drill/drivers, but the GSB adds hammer action...
    Think thats right!

Nice to have hammer, unlikely I would ever use hammer action on the screwdriver, as I have a dedicated 18v cordless hammer drill for the job.

Model no's - GSR means the tool is drive and drill, while GSB means its these and hammer mode.

I've got the gsb model and the impact driver. Can definitely recommend. The hammer action is useful now and again, although certainly won't replace a more powerful drill. Nice and light, decent battery life...what's not to like :)

    Good reviews then.
Axminster tools have it for 74 quid so I think I'll be down there tomorrow,

although - what are the equivalent makitas like, the white and grey one?

The white & grey range was Makita 100th Anniversary Products.

Also a limited edition Makita Pink range can still be found for breast cancer support.

    This makita version.

I did a lot of personal research into this and went for the Dewalt 10.8v range. Bought 2 weeks ago. Drill driver + Impact driver 2.0 Ah batteries. Best price £140 from FFX.
In my personal opinion Bosch and Makita made a wrong design decision and mounted the battery inside the handle. This makes it chunky and poorly balanced when held in the hand. Feels like a chunkly 18v drill albeit lighter.
I wanted small and slim so it feels nice in the hand. I tested them all at tool shops for feel and balance.(Makita, Bosch, Dewalt, Festool).
Festool TXS was best, really slim and light. Angle attachements awsome for small cabinet work, doors and kitchen fitting. But only 1 drill so seemed a little expensive at £200.
Makita and Bosch feel and "fat and chunky" if you have small hands (battery in the handle). I said "no" straight away as soon as I held them.

In the end bought this Dewalt set from FFX.
The drill makes a reasonable drill driver. The impact driver has the power when you need to drive in bigger screws. So a reasonable compromise

Axminster are doing a good set too with a 10.8v torch + goodies which is a good price too for £165.

If you have the privilege of being near a Axminster store I would strongly recommend you try them for weight/balance/comfort.

Look at these as well. Festool TXS and Hitachi mounted the battery at the base on their 10.8 v range. Better balance

P.S. I also have bigger 12v, 18v and plenty of SDS drills (corded and cordless) so power wasn't an issue for me. I wanted small and "nice feeling" in the hand. Dewalt 10.8v seemed best overall for price.

    happy shopping.
