Sometime this week I'm going to be painting a primed plasterboard wall to use as a projection screen so need it to be as smooth as possible.

The wall itself is currently white and flat and the paint I'll be using, whilst being specialised screen paint, is just based off a matt emulsion base.

    Any tips please?

I'm saying it's primed, but I meant it's going to be primed.

I was thinking of just using some grey spray primer (the screen paint is a neutral grey colour). Any recommendation for a primer (doesn't have to be a spray, I just thought that would be easier).

Has this wall had a plaster skim or is the plaster board the finished face

This will decide if the wall needs priming (sealing) first

If it needs priming, wouldn't bother with spray (assume you mean aerosol cans) as you don't get great coverage from a can and it's often best to stick to one paint system

So plaster board or plaster finish

Sorry yeah, I should have said.

It's already finished and painted with a matt white paint. Doesn't need skimming or plastering further. Just needs a nice grey primer :)

For a smoother finish, use more coats, thinned down.

Id suggest laying it off with a wide brush as you roll - this will avoid the Orange Peel finish a roller leaves.

Seeing as the wall has been painted white, I'm not sure your gonna need to use a grey primer

If you were painting over a strong colour, say green or blue then yeah you would need a grey primer / undercoat

I would just go with 2 coats of screen paint
