Hi, We need to seal the gaps around the pipes because we did have a rodent /mouse problem. What is the best way to stop them coming in ?
Hi, These pipes are coming in through the wall. No pets allowed unfortunately. Will builders foam do the trick or can they bite through this?
They will chew through foam like no ones business but i have stuffed holes with wire wool as they cannot chew through it have also used one coat plaster with crushed glass to fill rat holes, they will eat through mortar over time but if you want it to look like a good repair thats probably the one to go for
If your pipes are copper and you choose sand and cement, make sure the pipe is shrouded otherwise the cement will corrode it in time.
Would it be ok to wrap steel wire wool around the copper pipes and then spray with foam to hold in place? would not want the copper pipe to corrode ...
Foam will NOT stop rats or mice, they will soon gnaw through it. But using foam with copper wool, or fine copper mesh is even better, it's far better than steel wool at stopping mice, etc from chewing it. I've even use body filler & copper mesh to block holes to stop rodents. There is something about copper which rodents don't like. Also if you have to use a trap, mice just love peanut butter, works better than choccy, or cheese.
I had this problem around a new plastic waste pipe. The mouse outbreak was unbelievable!!! The builder said stuff the hole with steel wool, which I have done, and poison bait under all rooms, and in attic seems to have cured the mice. This was in the autumn, so even the smell has gone now. I am concerned that wire wool will corrode and leave unsightly rust marks down outside of white house. So the plan is to mix the wire wool into the mortar. I had not thought of using copper wool. Where can you get such a thing?
You may be able to fet stainless steel wool. I know there are kitchen pads (not brillo) that are available and could do the job.
Copper wire wool, don't see it around much now, but it is still available if you search. I got my last lot from here. http://www.decoratingdirect.co.uk/v...1xYjjRgGP-ZtSAroPU9nmUa0oYbacq4biwaAvRf8P8HAQ But,I think you could also use copper scourers, easier to get hold off, some are copper plated, others are 100% copper, but nowhere as fine as copper wool, might be available in somewhere like Wilkinsons, loads on the bay. http://www.amazon.co.uk/SCOURERS-CLEANING-ABRASIVE-SCOURER-SCOURING/dp/B00A3V6ZRI http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Reflux-Co...Domain_3&var=570615477452&hash=item3f47d44081 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/99-99-COP...Domain_3&var=520558140875&hash=item339f1b0b6c
