Bring and Buy

Discussion in 'Just Talk' started by Deleted member 11267, Apr 3, 2016.

  1. Why do some people insist on using the word BROUGHT (to bring) when they have just BOUGHT something.

Yes Deleted member 11267, It's something that annoys me alot. I'm not an expert in English by a long way but, I do always try to use the correct word and spelling.

My elderly mother annoys me by using the made up word "Turnt"

My dad used the word 'Turnt' at least 40 years ago, maybe longer.

It dates back to early 19th century, meaning 'someone turnt up', turned up, most likely county slang.

The meaning today has changed though., it's now:eek:

'A state of altered consciousness induced by alcohol or narcotics, also being happy and excited and energetic'

Terms that annoy me: Off of meaning off, learn them meaning teach them and shop assistants, nurses etc. who say for me instead of please

  8. How many eBay ads have "...highly sort after..."

(And usually when they aren't... )

Well, for a starter, 'brought' doesn't translate as 'to bring'.

    It translates as 'did bring'!
