Hi guys can anyone tell me do I need 1.0mm or 1.5mm twin and earth for my lighting circuit, I have just done my extension and am putting in the cable myself and then a sparky will connect it to save me money

In general either (relevant to suitability)

Personally I fit 1.5 for lighting

    1.0mm T&E Current carrying capacity.
16A clipped direct / embedded in plaster
12A in conduit in an insulated wall

    Also consider voltage drop.
If you are using a 6A circuit breaker and your design current is as high as 6A (expect it would be lower for your installation) you would have a voltage drop of 9V at the end of a 32m length of 1.0 mm cable. (drop must be <9.2v)

    Therefore, 1.0 is fine for a 6A cct with a length <32m.

Yes mate all nice and fancy..however some people do not like using bell wire with a CPC. Get some beef in and use 1.5mm..u know it makes sense.

    Dont be silly JP
Why not run it all in 6mm then - what sense is there in that.

Use the appropriate cable for the job.
Look at the design load, protective device, and cable length.

If someone can't be bothered then yes - run it all oversized.

1.0 why oversize when there is no need. Also a darn sight easier to terminate

  10. 1.5 all the way for me these days.
People like to fit squillions of spots these days and often dont tell you till half way through the job.

For several reasons I normaly have both on the van, and use them depending upon how I feel and which way the winds blowing.

  13. What about using 1.5 for the loop and 1.0 for the switch drops?

Aye tis funny however..usual on hand cable for site was..8 x 1.5mm
    8 x 2.5mm
    2 x 6.0mm
    2 x 10.0mm

I wonder where the 1.0mm is? Answer in the shop where it should be..gathering dust to boot.
