Can I leave Plaster on Wood Floor?

    Hi,

We had a plasterer come round and plaster a couple
of walls and now there is plaster over the wood floor.
I am not sure why he did not cover it. We might
put new carpets over it anyway, but Is it ok to
leave the plaster on/in the wood, could it cause any
damage in the long term? I have tried removing
some of it but there is too much and it seems to
    have stained/gone into the wood.

  2. Very careless - and no excuse.

Will it cause harm to the wood? No. But it doesn't look good, obviously.

If you are going to carpet over it, then no real harm. If you were to keep the exposed floor, then I guess you'd be sanding it anyway? In which case the plaster bits will disappear.

I certainly wouldn't want any significant bobs of plaster under my carpet, tho' - it'll likely slowly crumble and produce a fine dust, although I doubt you'd ever notice.

To remove, use a scraper to 'chisel' off larger dollops, and a wire brush to clean off smears - but watch for the dust formed, it ain't nice. A good rubbing with a wet cloth will then remove almost all of it, perhaps with the use of a stiff scrubbing brush.

    But, silly plasterer...

Pretty poor show, suprised he didn't lay some form of protective sheeting before starting.

I would get something like this. Should get the bits up relatively easy.

Thank you for the replies guys,
will have a good go at cleaning as
much as I can get off. The stains
will have to remain under the new
    carpet or wood flooring.

  6. Cool - it'll be fine with that.

(But no excuse for the guy wot dun it. Was the actual skimming done well? A good finish?)
