Afternoon guys. Silly question but here goes - Can you use lining paper instead of brown paper (paper felt) for laying on floorboards prior to laying carpet? Reason for asking is that the proper stuff is a tad expensive, and the lining paper is a fraction of the price. The lining paper gauge I was proposing to use is 2000g,

    Thanks lads.

  3. HI JP.

    I don't know.

But a quick surf suggest that carpet paper can be cheap http://www.diy.com/departments/diall-carpet-lining-paper-l20m-w-1m/161755_BQ.prd

However, since all it is is paper, designed to stop dust coming up from the underfloor to spoil your carpet, then surely lining paper will do the job too? It's tough enough, surely, and as long lasting - it's gonna be on walls for a long time.

But, I don't know for sure.

Can see no reason why not, they use to use newspaper as carpet underlay & news paper is a lot thinner.
