Ceiling Light

    I've just moved house and wanted to fit a new ceiling light fitting.

    My new ceiling fitting has N L E with one connection point for each.

    I have 1 cable with 4 wires coming from the ceiling Black, Blue, Red, Brown and Green.

    I assumed that I connect the Brown to Live, Blue to Neutral and Green to Earth.

    Not sure what to do with the remaining Black and Red?

    Could anyone help?

    A little more information would be nice. Is this just 1 cable with the 5 wires or do you have a ceiling rose with those wires connected in ?

    Have you got a photo off the old fitting?

    Be easier to say what goes where.

    From experience don't disconnect until you know what goes where.

    Sounds like you have new and old wiring! Where is this light? Maybe someone has come off it for a fan or is the two lights come on the same time etc.

    Guessing game atm
