I have replaced a ceiling light fitting: there is power in the live cable coming from the switch, there is power when I connect the ceiling wires to the fitting wires, power in the light bulb holder, I have tasted that the light bulb works in others light fittings still the light does not come on. Why?

  2. Because something is wrong...

Photo of the light fitting and wiring please.

Power coming in doesn't mean power going out, if you have live, then there must be a natural problem somewhere, maybe as simple as a disconnected wire in a junction box in the ceiling space above the light.

Switch off at the mains before you go poking around in there.

    Thank you for your answers
The wiring from the ceiling works as I have tried with a different light fitting
The connections in the light fitting not working have been checked
    These are the pictures requested

First things first, that earth wire should have a sleeve on it.

If your 100% the main wire are ok, the its got to be the light itself, I would suspect it to have a loose wire at the bayonet, or the bayonet itself being knackered.

The wire is probably broken or disconnected at the lamp holder itself, unscrew the lamp holder and check there.

And make sure you isolate the electric first before doing work.

The lamp not connected in the pic, hopefully he'll sit at the table to strip it down save losing any tiny screws. ;)

Are the springs working on the pins?

  11. Useful photos, Paolo. (South American?)

You said there was power in the 'light bulb holder'. How did you check for this?

It can surely only be the lamp holder itself that can be faulty? So - with the whole assembly removed - figure out how to unscrew the holder from the fitting. You may find you need to turn the whole cable at the same time to prevent it being twisted inside.

In which case, make sure you also turn it during reassembly.

(Did you check Mr Ha's suggestion - the pins are 'springy'?)
