The top of the lead is still not cut into the mortar behind the chimney!

I suspect another piece of lead flashing has been placed over the top of the upstand of the lead gutter, and cemented into the brickwork, Handy. ;);)

It looks like a mastic has been used to seal the top edges of the lead.

The leadwork for the back gutter does turn into the brickwork, I just didn't take a picture of it at the time, we used hall clips for the lead wherever possible, but since they were large joints we made our own lead wedges. Lead mastic was used to fill the joints. The leadwork was oild using patination to stop any stains occurring and to provide a patina for the lead.

It's just that from the picture, the lead at the back doesn't seem high enough to have any left to turn into the mortar joint!
