I am planning on converting loft space into extra living space that will include an additional WC that will include a shower unit and sink. At the moment I have a Baxi Main combi boiler that comfortably supplies heat and hot water to a 4 bed house. I am not sure whether adding an extra bathroom will place to much demand on the existing combi. The new bathroom would be directly above the existing bathroom so the vertical distance is minimal. The combi was only installed four years ago so I am reluctant to replace it with another system that would no doubt have to include a hot water tank.
it will only cope with one hot tap at a time, so if someones in the shower and someone else turns a hot tap on, the shower will go off, but good family management will overcome that,
As Mr Plum says, your current combi will only cope with a one-room studio flat. Or a 5-bed house. Ie - in either case, you'd only be able to run one hot tap fully at a time .
Total nonsense. It depends on the DHW flow rate of the combi. Some can supply two bathrooms. To the OP, how big is the combi in kW?
You have to see the requirements first, not go by old wives tales. High Flow combis are brilliant. You can stay in a drencher all day. I have one in a house with an 18 litre/min Crossfield drencher shower. Perfect. The water system is balanced. Balancing a water system is unknown to most "plumbers". The combi will do a house twice the size in CH.
Oi, I love combis too . However, Mr Walt, I need to take you to task. Please re-read my post above; I said "your current combi will only cope with a one-room studio flat. Or a 5-bed house. Ie - in either case, you'd only be able to run one hot tap fully at a time . " So I was right. And you were wrong. And I'm smart. And you're an ar**
Ah, resorting to selective editing, are you? Tsk tsk ...snigger... You are going to have to be a bit more honest before you win respect on here, Walt. (Cue Walt declaring 'he don't give a %&*@' about earning respec' on here...)
