Hi all, We have just moved into a 1950's bungalow with suspended timber flooring (joists 380mm centres) and original 18mm wood flooring that has taken some damage over the years, especially after the new heating system was fitted. Now I'm keen to take it all up and start fresh, the rooms will be a mixture of carpet and hardwood flooring. What I don't know is if what I am thinking is overkill. Firstly, I intend to raise the boards and lay some sort of vapour barrier on the floor in the crawl space. Then lay 22mm t&g plywood throughout and as mentioned some rooms will then be carpeted and others will receive hardwood flooring, likely around 18mm. Obviously, the floor level will be raised a lot more than the current height but I'll be removing the skirting anyway and changing the doors as part of the renovation. Should I change anything here? Should I bother with a t&g subfloor if the centers are so small (unless it's the bathroom I intend to tile). Does the plywood need to be external grade given it is the ground floor? maybe use 18mm plywood with 18mm hardwood and then 22m plywood with the carpeted rooms? Many thanks in advance
