Hi, I have a mantel cabinet housing my old style fuse board, which I would like to upgrade to a 17th edition consumer unit. An electrician has suggested a CED consumer unit, presumably because it will fit inside the space available. Having a look online, there seems to be a not insignificant price difference between CED and other brands like BG and MK. What are peoples experiences with the CED brand of consumer units? I don't mind paying more for a CU if that translates to a higher quality/more reliable product.
If you have a Mantel cabinet and are just changing the fuseboard, you will probably need a skeleton board. http://www.electrium.co.uk/media/20151123152628_0_Wylex Meter Cabinet Consumer units.pdf
It'll be a bodge if you don't use a skeleton board. They are what are meant to fit in the cabinet. Unfortunately, despite their name, they cost considerably more. As is the labour time for fitting them (a certain amount of re-engineering work is needed on the cabinet)...
