Got quoted £710 to change 5 rads. 2 are brand new rads teed off from existing pipework. The other 3 rads are being replaced for bigger / better ones.

Does this sound about the right price? Biggest rad is 1000 x 600 double. Rest are smaller but still doubles.

    Does that include the radiators?

Yes it does. Rads come to about £250

    That is the total price.

With rads, some pipe and fittings that doesn't sound a bad price.

That sounds a reasonable price, particularly as it includes new installs. As this is a quote, is assume you are not doing it this time of the year! You would have to be crazy:D.

As changing size of rads you may want to ask how pipes are being altered to new rads

Floorboards up and new vertical tails to rad valves will look neater. Or you may end up with horizontal pipework extended to fit - may be tucked tight to rad and neat or  not

Good opportunity to flush through system and add a cleaner and then of course inhibitor

If all of the above included, then it all adds to the price in materials and labour

    No floorboards need lifting.

Where are the pipes he is going to tee into then? exposed?

Yes, they are. Serving existing rad. This is only for the 2 new ones though. Each in different areas of the house.

Teeing into the existing legs and running exposed new pipework?

Interesting. I would not do it personally, would prefer to chase/drop into floor.
Still a 'reasonable' price for the work, without knowing exactly what variables are involved.

Has he given an estimate for time it will take,
and do you know what layout your heating system is (i.e Combi or system boiler and is it Y plan or S plan etc.)
Just to get a better idea.

Can't beat Kudox radiators our host stock.

Nothing wrong in teeing into existing run though (coming down the wall).

Combi, condensing. Not sure how long. Maybe a full day i would say.

I notice some rads that are still double rads, single fin inside. They are thinner than my other 'normal' double rads. Are they any good? Plumber swears by them! No idea of make as nothing on the rads

  19. KIAB did a post recently that showed all the different rad types.

More fins = more heat output. And usually more thickerer too...

Plumber said these are superb! Type 21

I was hoping for type 22
