And backup sh** all over the kitchen floor, then stench lingers for days, & the mess to clear up.

Are you saying that if we had a rodding eye outside, and the blockage was in the existing chamber, that jetting the pipes from outside would force sewage up through a double sealed manhole cover?

No, if you lift the lid inside.

I understand. And the solution to that would be to re-run the pipes through the new foundations and create a new chamber outside?

Yes, should never have been allowed to get this far without resolving the drainage issue first.
But, it's been done, so just hope you never need to lift that lid in the kitchen.

Ok, thanks. We'll talk with the ground crew about moving the branch pipe. I'll get a price for taking up the floor and re-running the pipe to a new chamber outside. It'll be expensive and should have been done earlier, but still better now before we get it completely finished with tiles. At least then we can tile over it as though it was never there.

Second best option is a rodding eye or new inspection chamber outside and tiling around the plate in the kitchen (along with hope that we never need to lift it).

? Was this not sorted out at design stage i.e. On the drawings?

If you leave it like that I would make sure you keep photos of manhole position, and keep some spare tiles!!!!!

The manhole wasn't discovered until they lifted the patio tiles. Both inspection points were underneath patio tiles originally, we didn't even know they were there. One is now inside and one is still outside.

The manhole in the extension will be visible as we'll tile around the space. We'll be laying insulation board, which will be cut around the manhole, plus the tiling will go around the cover too. We'll need to break the tiles to get to the manhole cover so that we can unscrew it and, if we get to it late then it may well overflow into the kitchen, we know that now.

Apparently we have the option of putting a rodding eye on the soil stack as well, which gives us access to the upstairs bathroom branch in case that becomes blocked.
So it looks like we'll leave it accessible (with a bit of work) if there's an emergency we can't resolve with rodding; add a rodding eye on the soil stack so that we can rod the bathroom branch; and add a rodding eye from outside to access the main pipe and the kitchen branch. What that won't resolve is if the junction itself becomes blocked and needs rodding or jetting. Then we have to lift the cover.
