I live in South Wales. House prices cheaper than most places but wages are cheap too! Concerned about my health in that i could buy a house and end up losing job due to health issues.

  2. Certainly get yourself a house - what else are you going to do, fritter your money away on rent?

Once you have your house owned outright, then your outgoings are relatively low. If you fall ill and can't work, that's what you - er, your wife - has paid tax and NI for all these years...:)

I paid NI too. I made sure i paid it.

  4. Yanking your chain, Kools :).

Seriously - get a fully-paid-for roof over your head. Priority. Everything else can take a back seat.

If you rent, you will see your savings disappear to the point where renting will be the only option ever available to you.

And buy wisely. You have practical skills - you've shown them on here. At least look for a house that's really 'dated' inside, hasn't been decorated in decades - that is enough to put lots of people off, but is an opportunity to save a few £k.

If you then find you cannot work due to ill-health, you should get support for this.

Meanwhile, minimise your future outgoings by avoiding rent, and secure your cut from this divorce - which means 'buy'.

This is an opportunity, Kools. Start looking through your options - consider widening the area you'll consider. Think of what will give you most peace of mind - rural vs urban, for example.

    But, buy carefully and wisely.

    It's a golden opportunity, man.

    Yes, you are spot on.

    I will buy.

Where i am currently working we have been told there is going to be job cuts!! Gutted. But, having said that, my body is complaining about the heavy work! I am currently looking for other work which has to be light. Part time should be ok as i have noticed i can get Working Tax Credit.

I take it nobody has alerted to "Universal credit" which is now sweeping the UK quicker than a dose of clap in a dirty brothel
Oh boy are you in for a shocker!
I now work 50 hours a week to keep a one bed bungalow roof over my little head. Up north!
It's tough at the top kid :p my hands are ruined with blisters

    Cheers.

My hands are rough too. Manual work is hard. Not sure i can keep going at 53 in same job as joints shot and back!

Divorce should be final by end of year. Nervous about living after that. Money worries etc!

    Never say never.

Just don't know who you may bump into!

No one's here forever so may as well make the best of the time we have.
