After trying to find a new bed and something a bit different,i got a bit bored and I decided to try and make one. What do you all think?
I know it is rather heavy, I guessed that I needed the weight to hold it down just in case a couple of people sit on the edge of it, it won't move haha
Quite like this! Why not make your own bed most beds are **** cheap *****. But I have to tell you a funny story. I was working in a secured unit. Where my work mate ( cocky guy) everything is easy type of guy!! had been set the task to build a bed. So I just thought I'll step back and keep out of it. so I start to see him using these big thick timbers joining them in all sorts of ways. Using 22mm ply wood for the top and sides. Telling me they asked for something strong. So once he made it took 2 days all in all. Swapping pieces around and jiggling the structure. It was finely finished. The trouble is the bed had to be taken up to a top flat it would take four people to carry it on the straight. Without going up windy stairs! He just hadn't thought of that one simple thing. I couldn't help but chuckle that day.
Hi Martin. That's pretty sturdy right enough... The finished job is very good, tho', and I bet you're chuffed - you should be. Good to know the 1970s is alive and well in the 21st century . What's with all the metal L-brackets? Any reason you didn't just slam a few 6" nails/screws in through the sides?
Its pretty much a first attempt at anything really and you learn as you go along, more practice more knowledge, I figured the the L brackets would stop it twisting or moving when transporting it but probably overkill as a few have pointed out haha
Haha this ones pretty heavy too! Probably is a bit overkill like a few have pointed out but first attempt etc, luckily I live on ground floor flat, you learn as you go along though I suppose, just thought I'd try something different
Haha baths are comfy once you throw in a good duvet! I just fancied something a bit different than the standard usual stuff, along with havkng a play around and learning as I was going along
Bed looks great mate, nice job What boards did you use for the headboard sections, trying to work it out from photo 5. MDF over a timber frame ? Good idea to incorporate the sockets in the headboard, interesting, enjoy
Every one, has to start somewhere and as they get more practice things become more and more refined. What you have done is practical and unique and you should be pleased with your efforts especially since you won't have the experience and tools that a lot of people on here have.
Sospan you are making me feel guilty now oh fine, its a great bed op. You did good. Dear oh lord you gotta change that duvet though its a passion killer.
Nice job and can appreciate the work to make this bed, bit of advice would be to use a 38mm or thereabouts hole saw to cut a number of holes in the base to allow for air circulation under the mattress and prevent mould growth due to moisture given off whilst sleeping!
Very good point, Astra. Miss P, if the bedroom gives you a headache, you can always relax in his sitting room:
