Door Architrave - 50mm chamfered. Door Frame Use spacer (7mm - change depending on preference) to mark peceil around door frame. Hold length of architrave upto door frame, mark with pencil at intersection. Cut 45 miter. Temporarily pin in uprights to hold in place using panel pins. Select top architrave and sit on top. Mark intersection point using pencil. Adjust architrave to meet. Making sure architraves are flush, pin in nail to top to hold in place. Hammer in remaining panel pins Drive nails using metal punch
Nice job I don't do it that way tho. I cut the leg 45, Then cut the head, then the opposite leg. Just over cut the head so you have room for error. Not sure if that makes sense I did some of these today it's a nice job I like your idea with the flat knife behind keeping them flush . They get more fun when you have to scribe then in.
maybe your way of the intersection point Looks good to as I guess your then flipping it around. Do you do it this way chippie?
I do it the same way as Jit but I do the 6mm bit by eye and I cut one end of the head first and then mark the other.
I think they have gone on nicely because the frames I fitted were new and square. I had to cut the frame to size for the door. The door then didn't need trimming at all, the hinge side of the frame was fixed in plumb and level and the door hung, the frame was then packed out to the door. Only fitted about 4 door architraves, and my method is taken from the DIY Manual If the frames aren't square, then the book mentions to position the architrave parallel in situ then draw on both sides, do this again for the head. Then find the angle where lines intrsect, using a bevel gauge.
I made up a scribing block for the 7mm. But will invest in a combination square. The architrave was left in house for 3+ weeks to settle. Left about 1/4" from floor boards, so carpet can go underneath.
Most of the arches I have done I have been lucky as I have put the linings in. Although I have always thought what would be the best way. If Badly out of square. Great tip
nice jit, nice I have seen guys make the frames up square on the floor with the architrave but then it still needs tweaking when in place anyhow.
I cut the frame to the size of the door, allowing clearance of the floor. The hinge part was fixed in first level and plumb, the door was hung afterwards. I found this is the best way if fitting from new, as it saved me planing the doors, the latch side was fixed afterwards, so meant the frame went in square. Took a few weeks to put in 5 doors, 4 of them are fire doors, which have a fire rated frame FD30, instrument strip is already routed in the frame. Its a big job as making some alterations in the stud wall (paramount plasterboard). The doors upstairs had lights in the frame, but have now been boarded up.
Seen a few of those...or the lot put on the wrong way round or placed on top of the skirting. C'mon, how hard is it?!!
