Hi we are joining 2 room together and felt we wanted to close the existing door opening and open up a new double door opening.

The size of the double doors we have picked is 54" or 1372mm but how much do I allow for the frame etc, what is the normal cut out you would do to end up with being able to use 54" of doors?

Also what height do I cut out?

    Any help/advice appreciated.

Hi happy, opening should be slightly bigger than frame size , you should either be able to ask the ppl that are to supply the frame, look up makers online or get frame and get tape measure out!

  3. Happy, buy yer doors and get a frame complete with door stops made up to suit (or make it yourself). Then cut the opening neatly to allow a - ooh - quarter-inch gap all round. If the opening is cut with something clean, crisp and accurate like a disc-cutter, then that should be fine.

Doesn't matter too much if it's bigger than this - say, a half inch all around - but you'll chust need bigger wedgies and packers, that's all.

Er, you are going to fit a lintel, aren't you? (If it's needed)
