Every time I switch on any light switch downstairs the MCB controlling the upstairs lights trip
Some water got in the kitchen fitting via the bathroom weeks ago which dried out also an electrical engineer fitted a new light in the bathroom.
The house is in its 1960 and I have been told it could be a neutral problem any advice would be much appreciated

Take the light bulb out of the new fitting? Does it trip then?

Has the leak been rectified is it still leak in that would definetly trip it.

    MCB? or RCD or RCBO?

For an MCB to trip there needs to be a high fault current

The electrical engineer attended today and said this is a new one on him and thinks it could be a neutral fault needing a total rewire

    Time for a second opinion.

Agreed, possibly, as we don't know the state of the fixed wiring presently ;)

Ok. Lets step back a little.

Take a photo of the breaker that keeps tripping and post it so that we can see if it is an RCD, RBO or MCB. Once we know that we can start to help. Best picture you can give us please.

    Kind regards

This could be a shared Neutral problem ?, they used shared neutrals on lighting a lot back in the 60's. If hes had problems with water damage and the wrings been played with maybe they have wrong connections, Just a thought.
