I had to take my daughter up to Sheffield from N Herts this weekend in my wife's Hyundai Amica. The car ran well all the way up but coming back after filling up it kept cutting out but would start again after a short wait. The further I drove the longer the gaps were between cutting out till it coughed after 20 miles and then ran without a problem for 100 miles. The only thing I can think of other than carb icing, which it isn't 'cos it doesn't have a carb and it wasn't that cold, is a blockage in the breather pipe to the fuel tank. Any other ideas?
Possibly but you would hope that Tesco would take more care. I have had another car that died after filling up in a supermarket filling station so I gave it to a mate to use the fuel and it killed his car, knackered the cat. I am not one for conspiracy theories but I wouldn't trust a big company to baby sit my kids.
Looks like there is a common problem with this car Parker's don't recommend for motorway driving, if you do best to keep in the LH lane. There are quite a few posts on this on the Hyundai Forums.
EGR Valve partly blocked, not really cleanable, just replace, not that expensive, or do as most do and remove it and blank off the hole, you will have to leave it conected to the wiring loom otherwise the engine management light will stay on.
You need to a ECU scan to see what the sensors picked up as a fault. Could be a dirty MAF or MAP whichever you have. Blocked or leaking EGR valves tend to cause very rough idle and serious loss of power with very rough sounding noises out your tail pipe. Is the tailpipe black and cocked up, is it a dry black powder or a wet black soot?
