bung everywhere you'd expect it to come out (bar one) light smoke, shove it in, bung last hole and watch to see if it comes out anywhere its not supposed to

including at the manhole - if it's got multiple feeds you can find yours by flushing the loo - you don't want to be blocking your neighbours outlet

    It's pretty much as above.

On the new manhole the pipe that goes to the extension is the one you want, light smoke bomb, shove it in the pipe and then plug with bung, if it's leaking smoke will come out at that point.

    Same for the old pipe.

I was going to perform a bung test however the builders paid for a CCTV drains survey to be completed.

The moment the surveyors entered the property they could smell the stench from the drains area and without even looking further they said you have a rats problem.
They checked under the open hole in the utilities section that the builders created and found rat droppings!...

They then went to the manhole and looked through the pipes and found 2 exits that had been blocked with only plastic...
This could be potentially where they are entering from.

I explained about the eggy smell as well and the surveyor said that is dangerous as if the smell get very strong and the area wasn't well ventilated, in the rarest of occasions it could turn into an explosion!!

They have advised to get the builders back and find the old redundant drain and make sure its capped off which means digging more of the suspended floor to find out.

Having said this, they were able to find and identify a gap in the floor that goes into the cellar.
Could it even be the rats are entering from the cellar rather than the drains?

Well blocking off an old drain with just plastic was never going to be good enough so it's good that's been pointed out, hopefully the builder does come and sort that out.

Do you have any signs of rat droppings in the celler, if so it's a possibility that rats could come up from there.:(

well we have found a couple dead rats in the water reservoir which is built in the cellar for flood water's.
Its a narrow cellar and as it has the water draining area, its hard to tell if any droppings are about but they were defo getting there.

We initally thought they were mice as they weren't as big as mice but may have the combo as the droppings we saw were much bigger then mices...

Maybe a good time to get a pest control firm in, at least that will sort one problem out.

Right so got rid of the pests via poison and for the past month or so, we have heard no more noises however we now have moths coming out from under the tiles and the drain smells are still present.

We had a few more plumbers come out and they also found nothing obviously wrong....

Here is the drain CCTV footage -

The pics of the work - Pre, During and Post works can be found here - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ma8t1tuzfeacswl/AACN0VfjyB0dp0v9Bcs1OTG8a?dl=0

According to the report - at 5mins 20 seconds there seems to be rat marks and a potential hole.
I have had a look at the CCTV footage and know that the way they connected the black pipe to the main sewer pipe (as per pics) was not done in the best manner, so not sure if its more to do with a not nicely cut pipe instead of rat marks?

Also from my own viewings at 6min 20seconds - On the middle bottom of the circle, there is some black which looks like a hole? This could be just a reflection though....
