Hi can roof trussess be installed straight on top of a RSJ, or would it need a wooden wall plate fixed to it, if so what would be the best way of fixing wood on to the top of the RSJ.

I am just thinking that the roof trussess would need nailing / fixing to the RSJ in some way.
Or would the weight of the roof tiles and batterns be sufficient to hold the roof trussess in place

    Thanks for any help

Wall plate on the steel, this can be fixed either by a Hilti nail gun firing nails straight into the steel, or drilling holes into the steel and screwing up into the wall plate.

Yes an existing roof on a double detached garage. I am removing single garage doors and replacing with a double garage door. The existing roof trusses are sat on 8 x 3 wooden lintels, i am removing the wood lintels and replacing with a new RSJ .

Just wanted to know if the existing roof trusses can just sit on top of the new RSJ or do i need a wall plate fixed to the top of RSJ

No i dont want my roof to fall down thats why i was asking for your valued experience.

Think we got there in the end, and an answer like this would have sufficed.

Yes a wooden wallplate is required fixed on top of the RSJ with an approved fixing.

If you get this type of genie he can get the RSJ in place and you will have two wishes left ;)

It's just Phil demonstrating his intellect, don't worry, his professional advice is much better than his political preferences.
