  2. Don't forget your box extensions they are 25mm and 16mm deep.

Why would i need these? I will be using plasterboard socket back boxes and have the cable come into them from the rear

  4. Because your back box will be 65mm behind the plasterboard.

You sure you want to use that for a socket?

In my experience.. And only my experience you should only use that style for switches as when you're pushing to put plugs in you can damage the plasterboard . personally if there was a sturdier option I would take it.

I am insulating it. Battening, insulation, vapour barrier, 12.5mm plasterboard.

    Very cold external wall.

Oh right. When you have done the battening is it possible to put in a couple of noggins so as say a 35mm galv back box can be used? Say screw the bottom 2 x 2 noggin horizontally first (the top of which will be the height of the socket from the ground) and screw the back box onto this leaving it so the box is flush with the noggin, and then put the other noggin on top and finally secure? And then you can plasterboard as per usual.

Dry lining boxes should be fine. Just cut neatly- nice and tight. It is when they are used with 9mm board that you should worry.
