I need to paint (emulsion same as walls) a boxed in pipe work section. Originally this box section had a daydo rail bonded to it. The walls (and this section) had been painted several times. On removal of the daydo rail the original unpainted section of panelling remains. Is it a case of feathering the paint edges to make the unpainted sections seamless or is there a high build primer or something available... taking into acount this is to be emulsioned later.
Usually you'd chust sand it to feather the edges. If the old paint is also emulsion, this will be dead easy; if it's 'gloss' then it'll take a teeny bit more effort. A very decent, easy-to-use, quick-drying, easily-sandable high-build primer is... emulsion paint . Really, slap on a couple of thick coats after you've done some initial sanding to remove the worst of the ridges, and then go over it with a finer grade (400-odd grit and a flat block) and see what you end up with. Chances are it'll be ready for the final finish coat.
