Is there an alternative method to fix a wall plate to a facing brick wall rather than use metal strapping.

Is it a cavity wall and is it built yet.

Yes its a cavity wall with facing brick both sides and has been up for 15 years.

Ok that rules out fixing the straps on the inside of the cavity then.

what is the issue - no strapping is visible or you want to remove it ?

So there is an existing wall plate - is it fixed down already ?

Unfortunately it will need fixing to more than one course of bricks, hence Why straps are used.

Surely, with a face wall plate, there sheer force is downward?

And bolts directly into the brick/block work isn't the best especially if the wall plate spans the cavity.

These used to be popular on some builds and used to run inside the cavity

On a flat roof yes it is more so, but on a pitched roof it would try and push the plate off the wall.

Never seen them before, but then again I've only ever seen a wall plate on the inner skin of block/brick work.

Have I got the wrong end of the stick? I'm thinking he wants to fix a timber to the face of the wall?

No/yes, a wall plate sit on to of the brickwork to take the roof timbers.
