    Hi,
I'd like to fit new bedroom doors into old frames as my house is 1920's built.
Can a standard 838mm bedroom door fit into the frame width of 850mm or would it look stupid?

I'd say that the frames are angled slightly so the frame at the top is 838mm and at the floor 850mm.

I measured the widths (top, middle and bottom) and took the largest value:-

    Door Frame 1 - W 850mm H1968mm D 35mm
    Door Frame 2 - W 850mm H 1970mm D 35mm
    Door Frame 3 - W 845mm H 1965mm D 35mm

Any info would be helpful cheers.

  2. I would carefully remove architrave both sides on where door is hung and hammer a wooden wedge in between frame and wall to make the bottom right and then architrave back on with slightly bigger space on frame and chaulk other side in

Hi the opening you have is an imperial size, is the door height 2040 as well? You can get the right size door if you go to somewhere like howdens or benchmarx as they do imperial sizes, for a good fit you'll probably still have to shoot them in(plane them to suit the opening) but will look much better as it will be the right sized door!
