Hidden decking fixings that actually work

    Hi guys

I've got a big decking project coming up and the customer doesn't want the heads of any screws showing so I need to use hidden fixings.

I've used the sort of hidden fixings in the past where you rout a small groove in the decking with a biscuit machine, insert a plastic bisuit type fixing into the groove and then screw though the fixing.

    Like these

thing is I found on the jobs where I used them the decking pulls up/doesn't stay down very well.

Anyone know of any hidden fixings that actually work?

    Kind regards, Andrew

    Hi Kiab

I have used those plastic Trex ones before on hardwood (Ipe) and after a year or so the when the timber has cupped slightly it pulls up from the clips and the decking moves when you walk on it.

Have you used any clips that actually work?

    Cheers, Andrew

I feel your pain fobos, I have worked with various hidden fixings over the years, all rubbish, the only way I would ever recommend and guarantee is to screw and plug,

its not as labour intensive as you might think once you get in to a routine,

We used to use the Ebty ones for teak decking when I worked in East Africa. Bloody expensve, but never a problem with them.

Also have a look at the Camo ones which seem more of a "screwed-at-an-angle" fixing: https://www.decksupermarket.co.uk/collections/camo

    Good link.:)

I have a Kreg decking jig, ok, but obtaining the screws became a problem, looking at your link, reckon the CAMO Deck Screws would work with the jig.:)
In fact they look identical to the Kreg ones.

I worked on a IPE decking project where those EBTY type clips were used

    http://www.ebty.com/

There was about 300 sq m of it and after a year it was a disaster. It had pulled up everywhere.
