Home alarm system advice needed.

I have a 3 bedroom house which I would like to install a home alarm system throughout. I have done the usual online searches but just come across so many systems which vary considerably in price. B&Q and Screwfix do Yale systems but I just do not know.

I understand that a system with a recorder of at least 2TB hard drive is ideal and that of 720p HD or bigger (1080 is best) is needed with a decent graphics processor and quad core processor. As for the cameras, I have been advised that protective lenses are needed due to potential laser damage.

It would be beneficial to have PIR activated indoor HD camera.

I do not want to go down the route of having a ADT or Response system, although a system with SMS facility would be good; one that contacts me if system is activated. I have French doors at the back, the front door and 5 windows to monitor with sensors. I am thinking a minimum of 2 PIR sensors - lounge and kitchen. Possibly a security camera for each the front and rear gardens.

Please could someone advise on the system I require?

Texecom veritas systems are very common and I've always fitted them. Very easy to use and setup. And never give me any problems. I also have the speech dialler which rings a list of numbers if alarm goes off.

As for CCTV, there is a good range of plug n play systems like swann. Very easy to setup and pretty good quality for the price.

Another vote for Hik or equivalent.
You don't have to use foreign servers to enable remote viewing, it's the p2p side that can give problems, but then that's what 99% of people use, with all dvr's/nvr's, seeing as it's easy.

Go for a Texecom panel ... plenty of options for dialling out and there are outputs which can be used to trigger other activities such as cameras.

Unfortunately Chinese technology is a bit better than the steel they produce

There is a conspiracy that they offer better technology at a cheap price just to get it into as many foreign homes\businesses as possible!

Can't fault hikvision though, have it my house if Chinese are watching what me and missus get up to then they might pick up a few moves

Hikvision for me too. Really good quality for the price.
Dome cameras are generally more hard-wearing than bullet style, and they look better too IMO. I favor HD-TVI over the other types of HD, but I know the sparks on here like IP cameras.

To be quite honest, there is little skill left in CCTV now. Go back 20 years it was a specialist game, but not any more. You'll easily learn how to put together a decent system with videos and articles.
Anyone who worked on CCTV in the IR floodlight days knows it used to be a specialist game.

Honestly you should go to a forum for this to get the best advice. I use https://ipcamtalk.com/ very good reviews as well as lots of gotchas for the different makes and models..
