Some advice please. My son has moved into a new house and on the landing, wants to replace the 12v MR16 lamps with GU10 LED lamps therefore utilising the same downlight fittings. Access to the wiring is via the loft so removing the power supplies and fitting new lamp holders reasonably straight forward. As these were fitted some time ago there are no fire hoods. My question is should these be fitted and if so which ones are recommended? Thanks
Confused,MR16 are 12v & GU10 are 220v, can't see how you can convert exsisting fittings. These are my favourite fire hoods, they are available under several brands. http://www.superlecdirect.com/p-gb4...-support-box?gclid=CKCE-OjhssgCFcafGwod8wgJwA http://www.fastlec.co.uk/click-gb40...=1745_24_114&zenid=mf5vnka3j12gl37q5ihcfda5r1
Thanks for your reply and suggestion KIAB. We will be removing the power supplies and fitting these holders:- https://www.wholesaleledlights.co.uk/5-pack-gu10-wire-holder.html Are the hoods a requirement or a nice to have?
UK building regulations require the use of fire hoods in various locations, if you have downlighters in you kitchen & above you was a habitable flat then they would be required, but in some domestic situastions they are not needed. More details about them in Building Reg: Part B here. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/buildingregulations/approveddocuments/partb/bcapproveddocumentsb/
Thank you again for your response KIAB. The hoods may not have been fitted as the premises is a 'coach house' flat built above a row of garages with no more floors above.
