I have ordered an I beam off the structural drawings 152x152x23kg The opening it 3.3m with a window 150mm above the steel. The window is 1.5m wide tight to 1 end. With the steel being 152 there is going to be about 50mm of the outer brick and 50mm of the internal blocks sitting on the steel with the cavity between. Is that normal? Thanks
Nothing wrong with 1 beam BUT it should support the width. You would usually have a bit of 6mm plate on top
I have a welder coming to do some other bits, got another job for him now. Is the plate welded to 1 side, so the beam would be under the bricks and the plate under the blocks? Or is it centred? It says 'plate to top flange for full length to support full width of wall above. Plate welded to top flange 6mm fillet weld 300mm long and miss 300mm long in staggered pattern'
