    ok matey its easy......

how much a hr you were on in your last job
Now how busy you think your gonna be eg 2 wks a month??

    Old wage Guess £23000
    now
£23000 devided by number of weeks worked (eg) 26

    26 / 23000 = 884 / wk .... / 40 = £22 / hr

    Now add tax Approx 2k
    Nic etc

how much were you on in your last job....

you need atleast double that plus
add up tax + van + tools + hol pay + sic pay + profit + time not working + Advertising + part p

I am a sole trader with very few overheads

    i charge £30 / hr or £200 a day...

    and its a struggle

Best if you work everything out on a year basis. Think carefully of all expences which you will encounter in that year, ie car or van change perhaps every 3 years so divide by 3, stationary/postage, insurances, tax, tools the list is endless. Then add how much you want to earn & profit. Divide the figure by how many weeks you want to work then divide it by how many hours in a week you want to work, that would give you an hourly rate.

make sure you think carefully about all the "extras"

    ie..part P
    testers
    PC
    Van
    Sick pay
    Hol pay
    Advertising
    emergency funds
    tax
    NI
    Pub lib ins
    Prof ind ins
    Van ins
    Van Tax
    Tools
    Breakages
    accountant fees
    nic fees

add all this up, the ad on your old wage...

this gives you the absolute min you can charge....

I recommend you then double the figures

Its very hard to beat a paid job wage... but it can make for a nicer life?????? sometimes (although i cant remember when)

I charge the same as DD £30ph or £200ad + materials ontop for domestic customers.

    For commercial it's
    £45ph fault find/repair + materials ontop
£35ph or £245ad for install work + materials ontop

Again same as DD I have low/minimal overheads (untill the new van is ordered anyway)

I'm in London and charge £40 for first hour, £35 thereafter (although just about to change over to £40 flat rate)

Other London based colleagues (all sole traders) charge between £30 and £55 per hour.

    Hope that helps

Charge as much as yo need to maintain your business/living...

But initially it's about gaining confidence and hopefully repeat business and or 'word of mouth' of the latter is more important.

But you'll find jobs you can charge more on than others..

Like CU changes, a good earner, for example.

I thought that but then found i had no work. At the end of the day other electricians dictate what the rate is. So from now on every electrician will £50 Per hour

    Sorted
