How do you choose which bond to use in bricklaying?
Say for example you want to use a stretcher bond but the length you need to build it to doesn't allow you to use whole bricks? and you have to use a cut? how would you use cuts whilst still making the wall look presentable? I know you should always run a dry course beforehand

    thanks

Depending on the length of the run you could lose the cut brick in the perp joints, either by opening them up or closing them down.
As you say do a dry run first.

    Thanks phil,
I was hoping to use an English bond.
I was just asking what if my selected bond doesn't fit the measurements?

English bond will have a Queen closure (cut brick) in it any way in the header courses at either end.

You can also make adjustments by cutting a small amount of a number of bricks e.g. rather than take 50mm off 1 brick, take 10mm off 5 bricks. The bricklayer who did my garage conversion had to do this to match in with the original imperial bricks. You won't be able to notice by eye, only if you get the tape measure out.
