I D cards Rogue traders

    I feel as a spark that we sparks should have ID cards, It's got to cut down on some of the cowboys surely.

    I am NIC.

    most of the cowboys have got cards

    they're called domestic installers

    some people are aware that corgi registerd guys have a id card and no its not going to stop it totally but it will make it harder.

    recommendation is the only real way of not getting ripped off
    never understood anyone picking a name out of the book at random
    i cant wait for my first job when i can say ohh you need a new rcd so if you can just pay me ooooh £120 now and il order it for you, see you next week!

    totally agree Betty but with an ID card to back up your certs and registration, the word will spread.

    At a guess gov wanted to charge approx £100 for ID cards, if my memory is right

    It's not just ID cards, but the public needs realistic guidelines on what to be charged...


    Anything over £40 per hour is ridiculous (that includes you BT & British Gas)

    Not sure I like the idea.

    Gas yes because it's illegal to work on gas without CORGI but working on electricity is perfectly legal wihout any qualifications or scheme membership so isn't there a danger that an ID scheme could push the smaller electrician out?

    I think anything that helps promote the industry is good though.

    Yes and formal recognition of electrical installation alongside Gas..

    Gas yes because it's illegal to work on gas without CORGI, so should it be with electrics

    could push the smaller electrician out but they should be registerd ?

    Try the JIB to get your card and a rating on your electrical qualifications
