Thinking of finally biting the bullet and buying a hinge jig. Are the worth the money or only really good for new frames?
Alright if you've got plenty of doors/frames all to do at the same time. If your only doing a few doors your probably quicker marking them out individually. By the time you've set the jig up, you'll have a couple of doors hung. A mate is working on a new build school and bought one, only because he has over 60 doors to hang. He reckons he can set the jig up, router all of the doors first, then do all the frames afterwards (just as long as he doesn't lose the jig)
Simon, hinge jigs, they give a lovely accurate job and they are well made. They do take time to set up but you just know that once done everything goes together really neat. Like someone says perhaps only justifiable on a big job but then again it's always a nice bit of kit to have. In passing be careful with a router in an old lining. I once used a hinge jig in some old council properties and found some buried steel! That made me pay attention. Good luck.
