I have cupboard in my kitchen that goes under my stairs and have recently had a guy round to knock part of the wall down that separates my garage and house to add a doorway therefore making it much easier to enter the garage from in the house rather than having to go outside. Builder said no lintel was required but everyone keeps telling me different??

It is almost certain that you do need a lintel above the door, the only exception would be that the wall the door has been fitted to is stud work, this is very unlikely due to the fact it's a garage wall.

Has the garage got a room above it or is it just a garage on the side of the house.?

    Some pics would be good.

Someone once said to me, "If you've got 3 hanging bricks, you need a lintel!"

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really
