Hi all, just found a great Thermalite block fixing, you just hammer them in, they dovetail out and I can't shift it. Have had loads of hassle trying to find a fixing in the past, but these are great. Let me know if you need the link etc
Incorrect OP! The best thermalite block fixing bar none (and I know belive me! ) are window/door Frame fixers designed for plastic frames not wooden. These http://www.screwfix.com/prods/16018/Fixings/Window-Anchors/8-100-Windowan Not these! http://www.screwfix.com/prods/56427/Fixings/Frame-Fixings/Fischer-Nylon-Frame-Fixings-8-x-100mm-Pack-of-50 Notice how the former has a slug that is pulled inside the hollow plastic tube and forces it to expand around it's whole circumference where as the latter just splits apart like a crocodiles jaws. Slug is King in thermalites, trust me!
I know it's an old thread, but I brought some of these today to get 4 fixings for a radiator, verdict, useless, don't waste your money. As I tightened up the screws the blocks just crumbled as they usually do, not the solution they pretend to be.
Blue plugs with associated screws (the screw heads are 12mm approx and you use a spanner/socket, the gauge I have forgotten - no probs.
I found the trick is .... no hammer action use slightly smaller masonry drill(so if 7mm for brown plug...use a 6mm instead) drill lots deeper that you would normally....and use much longer screws grease the screws before inserting into plug as deep as drill hole. This worked for me in new house for curtain tracks....etc. solid as a rock.(touches wood) Also had great success with these cavity fixings http://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-hollow-wall-anchors-m6-x-37mm-20-pack/40813 providing you use the cheap setting tool with them and select the correct length for the application. http://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-heavy-duty-setting-tool/8499g Carefully drill plasterboard with 10mm HSS steel drill first. Rs
Thermalite - as above, use a drill bit smaller than the plug, and a screw larger than the plug usually accepts
