    It needs grubbing out.
There are lots of old school ways of doing it but they may or may not work and will take years.

Need a tree surgeon with stump grinder. Last one cost me £60 to grind out.

I dug around it so it could be deeper.

May be specialist people ion your area.

Drill hole. Fill with killer and block off hole with a candle or something, then leave for a few weeks to work. Hire or get a man with a stump grinder to take off stump.

what about if i dug right down round it, chainsawed it as low as possible, drilled it and poisoned it then covered it in soil will that speed it up as iv poisoned it and blocked all light to it?

When it rots you'll get a big dip in your lawn, take the above advice and do it properly at least.

You either need to get rid of it by stump grinding or wait a very very long time for it to rot. And I doubt you'll live to be 200 years old.
