Hi, I am looking to put some laminate floor planks in the downstairs toilet. the previous owners had carpet and underlay so currently there is just a contrete floor. Would i need to put anything down before laying the self adhesive boards? Or do i just need to ensure the floor is clean/dust free and level? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
Are there not instructions with the boards, if there are self adhesive I would have thought straight to the clean/dust free concrete.
I wanted to check what the general concesnus was as the concrete doesnt feel particularly smooth, underneath the skirting boards some of the concrete has broken up so there is an inch drop in some areas.
doesn't sound like the ideal floor to be laying laminate on - a skin of self levelling help level out and make smooth, but the existing will need to be sound first - is there a DPC below ? - if there's even a hint of damp nothing will stick (for long)
not that can i see, certainly no damp as the floor is bone dry. tempted to just take it all back and get a professional to do it! it was only going to be a temproary fix (6-12 months) but dont want to start something and make it all worse. what is the self levelling you mentioned?

Agree with earlier comments - get manufacturers instructions. I've not heard of self adhesive laminate flooring and would think that it is going to be very difficult to lay, What's the area involved? A 2mm thick plastic foam laminate underlay was recommended by B & Q when I did my non-adhesive laminate flooring. That was hard enough to lay with the tongues and grooves. Alternatives would be quarry or ceramic tiles, or hardboard underlay with a vinyl top surface floor covering.
