I have an 1840's cottage with a leaking shower, the tiles are mosaic and tired, I think the leak is in the grout and around the silicon, the walls are larth and lime / horsehair plaster. One on the reasons that mosaic tiles were used was the fact that the walls are so uneven. I intend to strip the walls back to studs, even up the studs as required, use the water proof cement board (whose name I cant remember) and tile. Will this work and are there other ways to sort this?

  2. Will that work? Yes.

Why? Because it's what it's designed for and is the best solution.:)

And you can apply your mosaics on to this as well if you like that look.

You'd have probably gotten away with it had you fully tanked the lathe/plaster walls first, applied the mosaics to a full bed of waterproof adhesive and then used a cementous grout (or even epoxy).
