    Hi

I am about to replace light switches like for like.

Am I right in thinking that a 1 gang 2 way switch will work fine as a 1 gang 1 way switch. (They are wired up L1 + common but without L2).

The switches are currently 1 gang 1 way but the switches I want only come in 2 way.

    Thanks

    P.S.

WHAT DOES THE X MEAN ON 10AX?

OBVIOUSY THE 'A' IS 10 AMPS...

Afternoon Plumber. Yes you are correct about the switch M8. AX simply means that the switch is suitable for fluorescent/inductive loads. Hope this clarifies matters for you.

So for example if the switch was a 10 Amp non X rated..then you could only switch up to what 5 Amp's worth of florries. However if the same switch is AX rated, then you could switch 10 Amps worth of florries.

Screwless flat plates quite often require deeper back box's than standard! :O

Hope U checked that before purchasing? ;)

    Yeah... lovely...

What pattress depth would you recommend?

I think the sockets/light switch faceplates must be about 5mm depth.

I think I should be OK but if not I could just make the depth a bit deeper and buy new pattress boxes for a few pence.

Flat plate sockets tend to fit ok on a 25mm box, and most switches are ok on a 16mm box unless there are a few cables/connectors there. However switched spurs are a no no. However this would probably depend on the make of said items.

Problem with that is you need to buy the things before doing the work, to know what depth to go to.

Or, just take the old one out make the recess deeper, put the old one back(might need longer screws, might not).

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really

What's the difference between these two switches then? Both are made for bathroom fans (inductive loads...?) so which should I use for my bathroom extractor fan?
